Press Release, June 23, 2015 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - WHEELER powered by BionX wins e-bike World Championship 2015 BionX D-Series system dominates the field AURORA, ON, Canada - Canadian electric propulsion system manufacturer BionX and its long-term OEM partner WHEELER have won the e-bike World Championship that took place in the Dolomites, Italy on June 13/14. After winning the e-bike marathon at the MTB Festival in Tegernsee, Germany on June 7, Yves Ketterer (Team bikesportworld / klk-Raceteam) added the second big e-bike victory to his record winning both runs of the e-bike World Championships that were held in the Dolomites, Italy one week later. Initiated in 2014 by eBike Dolomiti (http://www.ebikedolomiti.com), the second edition of the e-bike World Championships showed an increased media interest and participation of e-bike brands on site. The race was split over two days with a total of 18 km and 1500 m vertical on very demanding uphill courses at high altitude. As required by the regulations of the organizers, the race may only be entered with pedelecs with a maximum assist speed of 25 km/h and 250W motors. After the race winner Yves Ketterer reported: “It’s just as hard to ride an e-bike contest as a pure MTB event. On the flat sections we ride these bikes exceeding the limit of 25 km/h where the motor is no longer allowed to assist. So we have to push the approx. 20kg e-bikes permanently with pure muscle power. The routes also provide steep climbs that you would barely accomplish with normal MTBs – that’s where we and the bikes are riding close to the limit.” Yves Ketterer rode the WHEELER E-Falcon e-bike with the high torque (25/50 Nm nom./max.) 250W D-Series Motor. “With the growing market share and demand for e-mountainbikes, e-bike races are more and more becoming an inherent part of bicycle events across Europe. WHEELER and BionX decided to enter this new field of competition to promote the brand’s core values and to prove under real race conditions that the D-Series system and BionX can hold its own against the other center drive and hub drive competition.” – says Christian Winands, Marketing Manager at BionX.
