Press release For immediate publication Bafang Taipei Cycle Show News 2017 Addressing Multiple Market Needs - Own Battery Developments and Production / BESST Dealer Service Tool operational Suzhou, PRC, March 16, 2017 – Bafang, the leading manufacturer of e-mobility components and complete e-drive systems announced a significant investment into its own battery developments and production facility. Further to that, both Cycleurope and Kruitbosch/Cortina brands implemented the new diagnosis software (BESST Dealer Service Tool) for their dealer networks. Jack Brandsen, GM Bafang Europe, explains: ”Our BESST service tool (for BAFANG E- MOBILITY SALES & SERVICE TOOL) is part of our greater service strategy for our European OEM and retail partners. A very decisive and differentiating element of our service philosophy is that the brand shall be the direct contact for the dealer or service agent. Means that there is no 3rd party involved to handle any service or warranty procedures. In offering all the technical assistance and spare parts to the brand, Bafang ensures that this way the customer can be helped much faster and effective than being in the middle. The service tool is therefore a great way to quickly read out where the problem lies. Then a dealer can request the exchange part or further assistance through his brand.” Besides diagnostics, the tool also serves as a registration, software update and survey platform, with even more possible elements built in for the future. Box BESST - BAFANG E-MOBILITY SALES & SERVICE TOOL The service tool is intended for OEM’s, brands and IBD’s and for complete Bafang systems. Bafang provides the brand with an account to get access to the service tool. The brand authorizes then the other parties in the selling chain. The complete e-drive system includes motor, battery, display, HMI, sensors and control unit. The software also enables to access the Bafang battery-data. The development of BESST is ongoing and a consumer app is under development. Bafang battery development with automated production facility A first big 80m RMB (12m$US) investment push is given to its own battery development and an automated production facility. Many OEM partners today work with suppliers who offer complete system solutions. Thus it became crucial to offer these options as well, besides the flexible approach Bafang is providing up to now. Besides the rack type battery which is already available for the Max Drive system, various options are under development. Two integrated batteries, embedded in the downtube, and a standard external version which also offers semi-integrated design options. Two different core packs, which are assembled on an automated production line, will provide customers with multiple design opportunities for outer shapes and proportions to meet individual requirements and needs. Both strategic investments are a clear sign to position Bafang as a supplier of e-drivetrain and batteries in the middle and higher segments of the e-bike market. And the market is still on the move. With more than 850.000 e-bike motor systems delivered globally in 2016, Bafang is clearly on its way to move into the higher volume and value segments. Part of the growth stems also from the excellent acceptance of the Max Drive mid-motor system among others. As mid motors are the preferred system for the major markets in Europe the focus on new versions is clearly set. Currently two new variations of the Max Drive, the Ultra Drive and the Modest Drive are being offered.
